After visiting the United States, self-proclaimed misogynist influencer Andrew Tate returned to Romania, where he faces rape and human trafficking charges. Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, whose social media empire promoting wealth, male supremacy and misogyny have made them one of the world’s most polarizing internet personalities, were arrested in Miami on Saturday as British authorities seek their extradition on rape and sex trafficking charges.

The brothers were taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service on sealed warrants, agency spokesman Brady McCarron told The Associated Press, saying the U.S. is at the center of an international legal saga that stretches from Romania to Britain.

UK seeks extradition on rape and human trafficking charges

British prosecutors announced on Saturday that they are seeking the extradition of the brothers on suspicion of raping and trafficking women between 2010 and 2017.

The dual American and British citizen moved to Romania in 2016. He was arrested there in 2022 on suspicion of participating in a scheme to seduce women for sexual exploitation. They deny these claims and the Romanian case has not proceeded due to legal and procedural issues.

Last year, they were allowed to leave Romania and flew to Florida on a private jet.

The brothers are scheduled to appear in federal court in Miami early next week, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive law enforcement matters.

An ongoing complaint in the UK accuses the brothers of abusing women in the north London area where they grew up. Their lawyers said they deny the charges.

Joseph McBride, a lawyer representing the Tate brothers, said in a phone interview Saturday night that although he had not spoken to his clients, the new charges from Britain were “filth and slander” aimed at derailing the brothers’ defamation lawsuit in the United States.

“They’re doing everything they can to make sure they don’t have their day in court,” McBride said.

“We are confident that once a competent judge recognizes the facts and the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of power on its part, Andrew and Tristan Tate will go free. America does not do the political dirty work that Britain does.”

Tate is banned from social media for hate speech

Andrew Tate, 39, first became known to general audiences in 2016 as a contestant on the British reality show Big Brother. Tate was removed from the show after a video surfaced that appeared to show him assaulting a woman. He and his brother Tristan Tate, 38, are vocal supporters of US President Donald Trump.

Andrew Tate amassed over 10 million followers on X, but was banned from platforms such as of the alphabet YouTube, TikTok, meta platform Instagram violated hate speech guidelines. Some of his most widely criticized rhetoric includes comments that women who have been sexually assaulted should take some responsibility for their attacks, graphic descriptions of how he attacks women, and criticism of people seeking treatment for mental illness.

The Tate brothers have consistently denied allegations of abuse or human trafficking, insisting that their violent and misogynistic comments were taken out of context or intended as jokes.

In a statement on Saturday, Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said it would bring a total of 38 new charges relating to “four further victims” in addition to the charges announced against the brothers for alleged crimes against three women in 2025.

Both brothers have been charged with rape and human trafficking. British authorities said Andrew Tate faces 19 charges of “offenses relating to indecent images of children and extreme pornography”, as well as an additional charge of profiting from prostitution.

Deputy Constable Karena Thomas, of Bedfordshire Police, who investigated the incident, said: “There is no place for male violence against women and girls. We will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports received.”
