The U.S. government has vowed to avenge U.S. military casualties, and Iran has insisted on attacks on U.S. locations across the region.

Published July 21, 2026July 21, 2026

The US has carried out 10 consecutive nights of strikes against Iran, with Iranian media reporting explosions in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island and Isfahan.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the operation on Monday night, claiming the attack was “aimed at further diminishing Iran’s military capabilities that can be used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.”

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a statement claiming that it retaliated by firing a surface-to-surface missile at the “US HIMARS missile system” stationed at the Arifjan camp in Kuwait.

Two Greek-owned oil tankers were rammed in the Strait of Hormuz early Monday, and Britain’s Maritime Trade Authority, which monitors attacks on ships, reported that another tanker was rammed off the coast of the Omani port city of Lima.

Just before the bombings began that night, US President Donald Trump warned on social media that Iranian attacks on US service members would be rewarded “many times over.” On Friday, an Iranian missile struck a military facility in Jordan, killing two U.S. soldiers and leaving a third missing, and another U.S. service member was killed in northern Iraq.

President Trump also reiterated earlier warnings that if Iran continues to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, there will be a stronger response.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s pro-Iranian Houthi group has declared a blockade on Saudi Arabia, raising tensions and raising concerns that Yemen’s conflict after four years of relative quiet is about to flare up and threaten Red Sea shipping.
