Midjourney, an AI lab best known for its LLM-powered image and video generator, has acquired social astrology app Co-Star, according to Bloomberg. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Co-Star reportedly has around 4.3 million monthly active users and is primarily used to determine astrological birth charts, which can be shared with other friends on the app. Co-Star uses both AI and humans to create horoscopes, compatibility ratings, and other advice based on users’ astrological information.
Midjourney seems to be casting a wide net when it comes to its product lineup. The company seems to be largely synonymous with Discord servers where users can generate text and images, but while there’s no standalone Midjourney app, AI Labs is also building out a medical department and spa. Why not add an astrology app as well?
Co-Star’s team of 20 employees joined Midjourney as part of the acquisition. Considering the team’s experience in developing consumer apps, perhaps Midjourney will eventually get its own standalone app.
