CNBC’s Jim Cramer said Tuesday that investors don’t need to track every move in the market to understand what’s moving stock prices. Instead, he said, you can quickly find out information about Wall Street with three simple questions.

“I learned early on that averages don’t always tell the story,” the “Mad Money” host said.

Markets are affected by a myriad of factors from day to day, but investors who want to quickly gauge the temperature of the market should focus on three things: bonds, oil and bonds, Cramer said. Nvidia. Combined, he argued, they can tell us about interest rates and the Federal Reserve, inflation and geopolitical risks, and the health of artificial intelligence trade.

The first question Kramer asks is, “Where is the bond?” Rising U.S. Treasury yields could make bonds more attractive relative to stocks, he said, while also increasing pressure on the Federal Reserve to tighten monetary policy. and 30 year government bond yield Kramer said interest rates have reached levels that investors can’t ignore.

“As important as stocks are, we must never forget that the bond market is much larger and rules the roost,” Kramer said. “If interest rates are falling, the market is likely strong. If interest rates are rising, the market may be deteriorating.”

His second question: “Where’s the oil?” He said higher oil prices could accelerate inflation and help explain bond market movements. He added that oil has become a key gauge of geopolitical risk as investors monitor the conflict with Iran and its potential impact on the Strait of Hormuz. Still, Cramer cautioned against overreacting to relatively small oil price movements, noting that oil prices are well below recent highs.

Cramer’s final question is, “What about Nvidia?” He sees Nvidia as “a barometer for what could potentially be a third to a half of the economy.” As spending on AI infrastructure expands beyond traditional technology companies, he argued, the performance of chipmakers could provide clues to capture a growing portion of the economy.

“We’re asking this for a lot of reasons, not just because we’re the biggest company on the planet,” Kramer said. “I ask because so much of this market depends on the fate of Nvidia, the fate of AI, the fate of data centers.”
