In a significant milestone for Google, CEO Sundar Pichai announced via X that the Gemini app has become one of the company’s fastest growing products, recently surpassing 1 billion monthly active users. Pichai also said that this is the 14th Google product to reach the 1 billion mark.
This rapid growth puts Gemini in line with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reached 1 billion monthly active users in June.
The company has steadily integrated Gemini across its products, from search and workspaces to Android and standalone apps. Google’s AI mode in search in particular has been a huge success, with over 1 billion monthly active users worldwide. However, today’s numbers specifically refer to the Gemini app and do not include AI users from other channels.
The company also continues to roll out new models and features, including Gemini 3.5 Flash. Google says it’s designed to improve coding and tasks for autonomous AI agents.
Google also shared numbers on how people are actually using the chatbot, with 63% of Gemini users using voice functionality to talk directly to their assistant. Additionally, Gemini currently generates over 150 million images every day, according to Google.
And Gemini’s growth isn’t limited to Google’s own products. The company says iOS currently has more than 100 million active users.
This milestone comes on the heels of the company’s Q2 2026 earnings release, where the company celebrated surpassing 950 million monthly users and tripling its daily active users over the past year. The announcement comes ahead of the Made by Google event, which is expected to release more Gemini-powered features across Pixel devices.
