humanSecond-quarter revenue soared more than 14 times from a year earlier, Bloomberg News reported Friday, highlighting the rapid growth of the Claude chatbot maker as it prepares for a potentially blockbuster initial public offering.

The company reported preliminary revenue of more than $11.5 billion in the most recently completed quarter, up from $787 million a year earlier and $4.73 billion in the first quarter of 2026, according to documents seen by Bloomberg News.

Anthropic also posted positive adjusted operating profit in the second quarter, according to the document. According to Bloomberg, this figure is preliminary and still subject to change.

An Anthropic spokesperson did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

The jump in revenue comes as Anthropic competes with OpenAI for enterprise customers and is gaining traction among professionals who use the company’s software for tasks such as coding.

In May, Anthropic announced run-rate revenue of more than $47 billion and full-year 2025 revenue of about $10 billion.

Early meetings with prospective investors ahead of Anthropic’s potential IPO were high-level and did not include any discussion of specific financials or valuations, people told CNBC’s David Faber on Thursday. Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao is leading the meeting, sources said.

Anthropic could become one of the first major private AI companies to hit the public market if an IPO goes ahead as early as this fall. This debut provides access to billions of dollars in additional capital, providing the tremendous financial runway needed to fund growing computing infrastructure costs, secure advanced hardware, and build dedicated data centers.
