oil producers vista energy Stocks soared in premarket Monday after it was revealed that billionaire Peter Thiel’s hedge fund had acquired a stake in an Argentine company.
Teal Macro LLC reported owning approximately 1.2 million Vista Energy American Depositary Shares, valued at approximately $76 million, as of the second quarter ended June 30, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission released Friday.
Vista Energy was last seen rising nearly 4.3% in premarket trading on Monday.

This is the disclosed position of Mr. Thiel’s fund. Amazonof which Thiel Macro owned 495,000 shares worth approximately $118 million.
It also held significant stakes in several US companies in the energy and power sector. Six of the fund’s seven new positions disclosed in the filing are in energy and utility companies. This includes: american power power, DTE energyFirst Energy, CMS energy, Vistraand X-EnergyAccording to the filing.
Vista is Argentina’s largest independent energy company, with operations in Vaca Muerta, a shale oil development region. It has invested more than $6.5 billion in Argentina.
Thiel recently moved with his family from the United States to Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital, where they bought a mansion.
Since arriving in Argentina in April, Thiel has also met with several senior government officials of President Javier Millay, including Economy Minister Luis Caputo, Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzenegger, and Presidential Advisor Santiago Caputo.
Thiel also met earlier this year with Milley, who has pushed for sweeping economic reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment, particularly in natural resources such as oil, rare earth minerals and lithium.
