Hello, this is Leonie Kidd from London.

Risk is back from summer vacation.

However, not all movements are the same, and while oil and bond markets have garnered the most attention, volatility remains low and cryptocurrencies have been unusually quiet.

Tensions between the US and Iran remain the market’s main driver, with little sign that the two countries will make meaningful progress towards a deal.

What you need to know today

After sending stocks lower and bond yields higher on Monday, oil price volatility is likely to dominate trading on Tuesday. The yield on the 30-year U.S. Treasury bond has reached its highest level since 2007, as rising oil prices due to renewed tensions in Iran have heightened concerns about inflation.

Brent prices are once again above $90 per barrel, and stocks across the Asia-Pacific region are in the red. Futures in the US and Europe are also falling.

Market movements have recovered from a summer lull, but Wall Street’s so-called “fear gauge” appears to have weakened. vicksmay indicate growing complacency. Volatility index has fallen to its lowest level in 2026, but analysts have warned against getting too comfortable as the US midterm elections approach.

Ceasefire expires

Now that the ceasefire between the US and Iran has ended, attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz have resumed. The cargo ship collided, killing and injuring the crew and damaging the engine room, Britain’s Maritime and Trade Authority said.

This comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to “bomb” Oman if the Gulf state “gets in the way” of negotiations with Iran.

Will you return to Bitcoin?

Investors should also pay attention to Bitcoin. The world’s largest cryptocurrency is currently sitting near historic lows, but Fundstrat says it could be poised for a big move, with prices expected to rise by about 30% or more over the next two months.

look for compliments

Stocks of major mining companies BHP Shares rose in Australia to a two-month high after the company beat profit expectations and announced plans to pay its highest dividend in four years.
