american airlines is expanding its commitment to premium travel with its largest aircraft.
The aircraft carrier launched its first modified vehicle on Wednesday. boeing The 777-300ER is used on some of the most popular long-haul international flights, including routes to London, Tokyo and Sydney.
The widebody aircraft’s new layout features 144 premium seats, including 70 lie-flat seats with sliding doors in the flagship suite section at the front of the plane.
American Airlines announced in 2022 that it plans to eliminate first class on many of its planes on international flights and install a single large premium cabin in the front of the aircraft. It began flying suites last year after facing delays from suppliers.
On some long-haul international flights, revenue for a lie-flat seat can be close to $10,000, compared to $2,000 or less for a rear seat.
There’s also a premium economy section, with 44 seats with privacy headrest wings and adjustable calf and footrests, and 30 main cabin extra seats with additional legroom.
The updated main cabin of the plane has 186 regular seats.
American Airlines has announced that its entire fleet of 20 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will be retrofitted by next year. The airline’s Airbus A321XLR will have a similar but smaller layout.

American Airlines is also working to expand its loyalty program, improve on-time performance and expand its network. The airline announced last week that it would add seven international routes to its 2027 schedule, none of which include Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
