Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. On Thursday, the company reported its highest monthly sales ever in August, as demand for chips used in artificial intelligence applications remains strong.

The company, the world’s largest contract chip manufacturer, had sales of 514.8 billion New Taiwan dollars in August, an increase of 53.3% from the same month last year and a 10.1% increase from July.

TSMC stock closed 0.61% lower on Thursday ahead of the earnings release.

The company’s monthly revenue increased for the fourth consecutive month.

At its second-quarter results conference in July, TSMC said that AI-related demand remains “extremely strong.”

The Taiwanese technology giant reported a more than 77% year-over-year increase in second-quarter profit and expects third-quarter revenue to range from $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion.

TSMC maintains its dominance in the global foundry market, capturing 72.5% market share in the second quarter, according to data released by TrendForce on Wednesday. The research firm said TSMC’s advanced 5-nanometer, 4-nanometer and 3-nanometer production capacity remained full during the quarter due to strong demand for AI server processors.

Samsung Foundry came in second with a 5.9% share, followed by China’s SMIC with 5.4%.

The world’s top 10 foundries posted record total revenues of nearly $53.49 billion in the second quarter, driven in part by supply constraints for advanced processes used in AI and high-performance computing processors.

Separately, TSMC and Dutch chip manufacturing equipment giant ASML this week announced efforts to advance the industry’s transition to next-generation chip manufacturing technology.

TSMC said it plans to use ASML’s high-NA technology for large-scale manufacturing of advanced nodes starting in 2030, and adoption is expected to increase as AI applications require more complex transistor architectures.
