Guyana’s president says his country is seeing an increase in oil revenues as the Iran conflict reshapes global markets.

President Mohamed Irfaan Ali insists he does not want Guyana to rely solely on its oil resources.

The South American country’s oil revenues have soared in recent months as the U.S. and Israel’s war against Iran escalates, disrupting global energy supplies and sending oil prices soaring.

In a conversation with Talk to Al Jazeera, Ali said a major oil discovery 11 years ago changed the country.

Despite the oil boom, inflation and the cost of living remain high. Opposition parties claim the government is mishandling oil resources, but the president denies these accusations.

Ali said the government is working to diversify other sectors of the economy to ensure long-term growth.

During the discussion, Guyana’s president said he was not concerned about US intervention in neighboring Venezuela, noting that US President Donald Trump’s administration is contributing to coordinating regional security.
