boeingChief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg told investors Wednesday that it will take “a little bit longer” than expected for the company’s 737 MAX production to stabilize, and that the company expects to ramp up production of the plane next year.

Boeing shares extended their losses for the day after Ortberg’s comments, falling more than 5% in afternoon trading.

The company has been working to steadily increase production of its best-selling machine after years of safety and quality crises. Ortberg said production of the wings at its Renton, Wash., plant is currently a constraint, adding that the company has plans to address that.

Boeing produces about 47 aircraft a month.

Ortberg reiterated to investors at Morgan Stanley’s industry conference that he expects the Max 10, the largest model in the family, to be certified “soon.” The plane is years behind schedule.

Kelly did not say he expected to order aircraft from China when President Donald Trump is scheduled to welcome Chinese leader Xi Jinping to the White House on September 24.

Orders from China “will be announced at the airline’s pace,” he said.
