Denmark and Greenland are expected to sign a US defense agreement next week, pending approval by both parliaments.

US President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that the US has signed agreements with Denmark and Greenland that give them “permanent control over their security and all other needs.”
“At my direction, I have worked with the representatives of Denmark and Greenland to ensure that the United States forever has the full ability to do what is necessary in Greenland,” Trump said in a post on his platform Truth Social.

He added that adversaries of the United States would be prohibited from establishing military bases or personnel in Greenland without written permission from the United States.
President Trump asserted that plans to establish a large-scale U.S. military presence in suitable areas across Greenland will begin immediately, noting that there are many potential locations.
Denmark and Greenland issued a joint statement on Friday indicating that an agreement with the United States is expected to be signed during next week’s session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The statement added that the deal still requires parliamentary approval in both Nuuk and Copenhagen.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the agreement “recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the kingdom and the right to self-determination of the people of Greenland.”
