U.S. airlines have waived change fees for flights from Friday through Sunday as federal weather forecasters warn of strong winds, rain and the possibility of dangerous flooding across the Northeast.
As of Friday afternoon, nearly 600 flights to and from New York’s LaGuardia Airport were delayed, more than half of them scheduled, according to FlightAware. Dozens of other flights were delayed at major airports in the New England and New York areas.
Although airlines often cancel some, if not most, of their schedules during severe winter storms and hurricanes to prevent aircraft, passengers, and crew from traveling, airlines are still evaluating the potential path and impact of a nor’easter.

The potential weekend disruption comes after an equipment failure forced airlines to cancel hundreds of flights to the New York area and Philadelphia on Monday.
