Stocks with the biggest price movements at midday: CMG, SBUX, SKYD, MPC

Here are some companies that are making headlines in intraday trading. Energy stocks – Oil prices soared after Iran stepped up attacks on tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Marathon Petroleum and APA were last up more than 4%. Diamondback Energy rose 3% and Chevron rose more than 2%. Chipotle Mexican Grill, Starbucks – The Financial Times reported that Chipotle shares rose more than 6% as the coffee giant considered acquiring the burrito chain. Starbucks ended the day down 5%. Skydance — The new company formed from a partnership between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery rose more than 4% after co-CEO David Ellison told CNBC that the media giant is “positioned to win in every area in which we operate.” Levi Strauss – The denim company’s stock fell for the second day in a row after Levi’s lowered its full-year net sales growth forecast to 7%, the lower end of its previously-provided 7% to 7.5% growth outlook. Levi was last down 3%. Artificial Intelligence Stocks – The iShares AI Innovation and Tech Active ETF (BAI) fell more than 1% on the day, heading for its second straight day of losses as investors took a risk-off stance. Photonics stocks Coherent and Lumentum fell 5% and 3%, respectively. Data center power play Bloom Energy fell nearly 5%. GlobalFoundries – The semiconductor maker rose nearly 5% after announcing a multi-year, $2 billion manufacturing deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to produce silicon interposers. Production is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2028. Haemonetics — The blood and plasma provider soared 16% after CSL said it expects to complete the rollout of Haemonetics’ plasma exchange platform across the U.S. by the end of 2027. Broadcom — The chipmaker traded 1% lower. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company is working on arranging more than $50 billion in financing related to OpenAI and a custom AI chip it is developing. Applied Digital — Applied Digital fell nearly 2%, weighed down by declines in AI trading. The stock price fell even though the company reported first-quarter sales of about $342 million, up 322% from a year earlier. The company’s AI data center business expanded rapidly. CEO Wes Cummins recently said the Tier 1 hyperscaler is developing approximately 1 GW of self-built data centers in North Dakota, further highlighting the state’s need for AI infrastructure. Palantir Technologies — The software giant bucked the broader market trend and rose more than 2% after Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock to buy. Analysts at the bank said: “With the move to sovereign AI, bespoke applications and Palantir,[the entire addressable market]may be poised for further significant step-function changes…sustainable even with competitors’ investments.” CNBC’s Fred Imbert, Michelle Fox and Nick Wells contributed reporting.
