Maker of non-text AI model Jev was valued at $7.5 billion just weeks after launch

TypeSafe AI, the developer of Jev, a new type of AI model that quickly gained popularity after its launch just a few weeks ago, has raised $870 million at a valuation of $7.5 billion. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz with participation from Sequoia and existing investor DCVC.

The huge amount of funding is no surprise considering Jev went viral almost instantly after its September 15th release. The company claims that one-third of Fortune 500 companies are already using this model, and adoption by businesses has been surprisingly fast.

Although Jev is based on a transformer architecture, it is not a large-scale language model (LLM). It doesn’t output text, but instead generates probabilities, or what the company calls “coordinated decisions.” What has users and large enterprises so excited about Jev is TypeSafe’s claim that it runs significantly faster than LLM and uses far fewer tokens. The company positions its approach as uniquely suited for automating tasks rather than text or code generation.

“We’ve been very good at human language for four years, but computers speak a different language, so that doesn’t help with automation,” TypeSafe co-founder Diogo Almeida told TechCrunch last month.

TypeSafe was co-founded in 2024 by former meta-research engineer Sasha Shen and engineer and entrepreneur Eric Gafni, along with Almeida, a former OpenAI researcher.
