US President Donald Trump has said “massive” exploration for oil, gas and minerals is scheduled to begin in Greenland.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, President Trump said Denmark’s autonomous Arctic island has some of the world’s largest “readily” extractable oil reserves.

“Our new and beautiful Greenland is poised for massive oil, gas and mineral exploration to begin,” President Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
“The amount of readily available oil is far greater than almost anywhere else in the world,” he wrote, citing experts.
He did not elaborate on possible U.S. involvement.
Last month, President Trump agreed to a security agreement with the leaders of Denmark and Greenland that expands the role of the U.S. military on the island.
The agreement paves the way for two new military bases and President Trump’s planned “Golden Dome” missile defense system, while reaffirming Danish sovereignty and the Greenlanders’ right to self-determination.
The deal was aimed at ending a nearly two-year crisis over President Trump’s refusal to eliminate the U.S. armed occupation of Greenland.
In a social media post Wednesday, Trump also praised the security benefits for both the United States and Europe from last month’s deal, calling it “second to none.”
He said no airstrikes against the United States could be carried out without passing through Greenland, arguing that as a result the United States could neutralize any threat.
“Future attacks on the United States will have to go through Greenland, where our defenses routinely shoot down drones, missiles, and other yet-to-be-conceived weapons,” Trump said.
“It gives you a time, a place, a perspective that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.”
There was no immediate comment from the leaders of Greenland or Denmark on the US president’s post.
