Design platform Figma announced a new Markdown-based editor to help enterprises define their designs, deploy design and code libraries, and integrate with the Payload headless content management system during the company’s first Config event in India. Through some of these features, the company aims to provide definitions to help its own and third-party agents better adhere to brand design rules when creating with AI.
The company has debuted a new feature called Figma Specs, a markdown editor that allows users to define their design language in an easy way. This document serves as a reference for teams and agents when designing in Figma. Specifications can exist as standalone files within Figma or coexist within the canvas. In addition to acting as a text editor, users can reference other Figma elements, such as those on canvas, and embed FigJam diagrams, code layers, and designs.
Additionally, teams can capture more context about their designs, including guidelines for managing context in design libraries, code libraries, and design systems. Agents can also refer to this centralized system to enforce rules.

Last week, the company made agents on Canvas available to a wider audience. However, given the non-deterministic nature of AI, the company provides tools to guide AI to more predictable outcomes.
Figma also created a code layer feature that lets you add coding to your designs on the canvas for more interactive prototypes. The company announced the feature in private beta in June. The company will make the feature available in public beta at an event in India this week so more users can test it. Users can also ask agents to convert their designs to code or change parts of the code and iterate on a prototype.

“We think of Figma as a place where software teams decide what to build and ship, so I think one of the important things to remember about what AI is changing and what is now available is the ability to build,” Loredana Crisan, chief design officer at Figma, told TechCrunch. “There are now 17 times more lines of code written than before. But if you look at releases, there are only 1.3 times as many releases. A lot of that code is actually not necessarily built to ship, it’s actually built to know what the product is. It’s built to design.”
The company said it also supports more than 20 new tools in MCP, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot, and Indian AI startup Sarvam.
Last year, Figma acquired an open source headless CMS payload. The company is now integrating it with its Figma Make product to generate dynamic websites and manage content directly. The company says Payload downloads have increased six times over the past 12 months.
Late last year, the company opened its first office in India with sales, partnership, go-to-market and product support functions. Figma said the country is its largest market in terms of users outside the United States. The company pointed out that the platform works with 40% of India’s top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
