The apps in the consumer voice AI world appear to be converging, as Granola, known for its meeting note-taking tools, launched a dictation feature today. This comes a few months after Wispr, known for its dictation tools, launched Meeting Notetaker.
Granola’s dictation now works on Mac like other similar tools. When a user presses the “Fn” key and starts speaking, the tool cleans and formats the audio and posts the final text. This feature works across all apps, allowing users to post notes, dictate prompts, and reply to emails and messages.
The company said this feature will be coming to iOS and Windows soon.
Granola and Whisper are valued at $1.5 billion and $2 billion, respectively. Granola focuses on meeting-related automation and note-taking. Meanwhile, Wispr is trying to build its own model through a research institute that studies various human-computer interfaces.
Feature mashups are not limited to Granola and Wispr. Other audio startups like Fireflies, Speechify, and Monologue are integrated into multifunctional apps with meeting note-taking and dictation features. Until earlier this year, it was important to have a focused app that did one thing well. But now all these apps are thinking of ways to get even more out of capturing your audio.
