In a blow to Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign for U.S. Senate in Michigan, his former main opponent, U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, has endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers.
Mr. Stevens surprised party officials on Sunday by attending a service with Mr. Rogers at a Detroit church, amid heightened tensions between Mr. Rogers and Mr. El-Sayed two days before an election that will decide the balance of power on Capitol Hill.

“I support U.S. Sen. Mike Rogers. Today, I am not in Mr. Abdul’s camp,” she said in a video posted to X.
Stevens’ surprising endorsement of President Donald Trump’s candidate in the hotly contested election came after she was not invited to a joint event on the same day as El-Sayed, who narrowly won the August primary.
“We as Michiganders are not about hate, and that’s not what we’re getting from the Democratic candidates right now,” Stevens said.
