brookfield The UK is targeting a large artificial intelligence data center in northern England as Europe rushes to develop infrastructure to support AI deployment amid high energy and land costs.

energy company drax group announced on Tuesday that it had signed a deal with Brookfield and the asset manager’s neo-cloud platform Radiant to jointly develop an AI data center at the Drax power station site in North Yorkshire. Drax’s London-listed shares rose 8.2% in early morning trading.

The project initially aims to bring on-line up to 100 megawatts of capacity from the first quarter of 2028, with an additional 500 megawatts of capacity between 2028 and 2031. It then aims to secure more than 1 gigawatt of capacity at the site by an unspecified date.
