CNBC’s Jim Cramer warned Wednesday that Wall Street may be getting ahead of itself in the wake of the midterm elections.

Stocks rose after Democrats won decisive victories in the midterm elections, but the gains masked rifts within tech. Hyperscalers soared as investors bet growing opposition to data center development could slow the buildout of AI and ease spending pressure. Meanwhile, semiconductor stocks and data center developers came under pressure. Cramer cautioned that investors may be drawing premature conclusions about the election’s economic impact.

“Interim results drove today’s trading, but I’m hesitant to speculate about where it goes next because the Department of Labor’s nonfarm payrolls report is expected to be released by Friday, and much of this movement could be scrapped,” the “Mad Money” host said.

“But I like the word guess,” he added. “Because this is a summary of what I saw throughout today’s session, and even though it’s a great one-day trade over many years, it’s not what I want to base my investment decisions on.”

apple The stock hit a record high on Wednesday as investors bet that a slowdown in data center construction would ease memory chip prices that are squeezing the company’s margins. microsoft and Amazon There were also growing expectations that delays in the construction of AI could reduce data center costs and curb huge capital investments.

Conversely, investors sold stocks in companies whose growth depended on continued investment in AI infrastructure, such as chipmakers. Nvidia and AMD data center developer and coreweave, Nevius and Airen.

But Cramer questioned whether a single election could fundamentally change the forces that move markets. “As important as the midterm elections are, this one is important, but please understand that the election didn’t completely change the economic cycle,” Cramer said.

Kramer noted that he echoes Michael Chamberrest, a strategist at JPMorgan who publishes the popular commentary book “Eye on the Market.”

“Business cycles drive markets, and important factors are unaffected in the interim term: 10-year interest rates, commodity prices, Federal Reserve policy, corporate profits, the budget deficit, defense spending, the pace of AI investment over the next 12 months, AI companies’ aggressive borrowing needs, and the impact on credit spreads,” Chamberrest wrote in an update Wednesday.

Cramer said it’s important for investors to understand that short-term market movements may not necessarily correspond to actual fundamentals. “Never confuse what’s happening in the stock market with what’s happening in reality,” he said.

Cramer’s Charitable Trust, a portfolio managed by CNBC’s investment club, owns stock in AAPL, AMZN, MSFT, and NVDA.
