President Donald Trump announced Friday that his chief of staff, Stephen Miller, will be promoted to chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles.
Trump will replace Miller starting Monday, he said in a post on Truth Social, praising his longtime aide as “one of his most trusted advisers.”
Mr. Wiles “has been doing a great job and will be moving on to the Trump political operation,” the president wrote.
President Trump unveiled the stunning changes just three days after Democrats won a landslide victory in the midterm elections, taking control of both houses of Congress and derailing the trajectory of his administration over the past two years.
The decision to promote Miller, who has played a key role in designing and advocating for President Trump’s controversial mass deportation plan, is sure to provoke a backlash from incoming Democratic members of Congress, who have already vowed to investigate the administration’s immigration policies.
