President Donald Trump announced that Stephen Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff.
President Trump said in a post on his Truth social account Friday that Miller will start his new job on Monday, calling him “one of my most trusted advisers.”
“Susie Wiles, who has done a great job, will be moving to Trump’s political operations. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff. She did a great job!”
Miller joined the US president’s first campaign as an adviser in 2016 and has been one of Trump’s closest aides throughout both of his terms.
He is a driving force behind the Trump administration’s hardline border and deportation policies, which are at issue in the U.S. midterm elections.
Democrats are widely expected to launch an investigation into Miller after taking control of the U.S. House and Senate in January.
Mr. Trump was widely expected to shake up his staff after the midterm elections, in which Democrats won seven seats in the Senate, with two states still open: Alaska and Mississippi. Democrats also hold 253 seats in the 435-member U.S. House of Representatives, with 27 races still to be counted.
While the vote is primarily seen as a referendum on President Trump, Miller’s appointment largely represents a doubling down on his most controversial policies.
Miller has not yet commented on the election results, but on Election Day he encouraged Trump supporters to vote in a post about X.
“Send a message to the corrupt media, corrupt Democrats, and corrupt left-wing politicians who are trying to steal your future and destroy your children’s legacy,” he wrote. “Go to the polls and protect your loved ones.”
Wiles, who is credited with steering Trump’s re-election campaign in 2024, said it was a “once-in-a-lifetime honor” to serve as Trump’s chief of staff.
“I am so proud to have been a part of what we have accomplished together, from securing our borders and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First,” she said.
