OpenAI has reportedly raised $11 billion so far in a new funding round that values the AI lab at $1.25 trillion.
Bloomberg reported on the new funding on Friday, citing sources familiar with the matter. The $11 billion is part of a larger funding round that has not yet closed, the outlet said. The round is expected to close in the coming weeks and could total around $20 billion, people told Bloomberg.
In late September, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI was aiming to raise $30 billion in its next round. Current numbers are well below that goal.
TechCrunch has reached out to OpenAI for comment and will update this article if we hear back.
The news comes just hours after Bloomberg reported that potential buyers of Anthropic’s IPO stock, OpenAI’s main competitor, are eyeing a significantly lower valuation than Anthropic was targeting. Bloomberg writes that some potential buyers believe Anthropic’s valuation could be around $1.1 trillion, compared to the $2 trillion that investors were said to have expected about a month ago.
OpenAI previously hinted it would go public this year, but later postponed those plans. There are expectations that the company will IPO at some point next year.
