Megaspeed executives were recruited to spy on NVIDIA’s CEO, according to US intelligence memo

A memo circulating earlier this year claimed that technology executive Alice Huang was recruited by China’s Ministry of State Security to spy on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, according to multiple media reports.

The New York Times, which previously reported that Nvidia’s chief executive was a target of Chinese intelligence, first reported on the memo, which is said to be based on U.S. intelligence. The Financial Times later reported that the memo also claimed that Jensen Huang was in a romantic relationship with Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed.

An Nvidia spokesperson told the NYT that Jensen and Alice Huang’s interactions are “not unusual” and that the company does not share confidential information with customers.

Another NYT report investigated New Matrix, a Chinese company that was approved by the US Department of Commerce to purchase advanced NVIDIA chips. But reporters found only a “gray void” at the office address published by New Matrix, raising concerns that it could be a sign of a blacklisted private equity firm.

An Nvidia spokesperson said the company sells “our first, best and most of our technology” in the United States.
