Adobe announced Tuesday that its AI assistant for Photoshop will be available to users in beta on the web and mobile apps. The company is also adding new AI-powered image editing features to Firefly, its media generation and editing tool.

The creative tools company first announced its AI assistant for Photoshop at its MAX event in October. This feature is currently being rolled out to users and helps them remove objects and people from images, change colors, and adjust lighting through prompts. Users can also use natural language to tell the AI assistant to add a soft glow, crop in a specific format, enhance shadows, or transform the background to give the image a different look.

Adobe says paid Photoshop users will be able to create an unlimited number of generations with the AI assistant until April 9, while free users will have access to 20 generations from the start.

Additionally, the company is adding a new feature to the public beta called AI Markup, which allows users to draw markers on the screen and transform those objects using the AI assistant. For example, you can draw flowers or change the background by marking objects to be removed.

Additionally, Adobe is adding new image editing tools to its Firefly media creation tools. Firefly takes advantage of the generative fills that have existed in Photoshop for several years to replace or add objects and change the background accordingly.

Firefly also adds generative remove functionality to remove objects, generative expand functionality to increase image size using AI, and generative upscaling functionality. Additionally, the company is adding a one-click tool to remove backgrounds from images.

The company announced in February that it would grant unlimited generations to Firefly subscribers to encourage usage growth. Over time, more than 25 third-party video and image generation models were also added, including Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 Pro.
