A new super PAC backed by AI companies has raised $125 million in 2025 to advance its goal of backing candidates who support national AI regulation rather than state-by-state rules.

The group, Leading the Future, announced it had $70 million on hand at the end of the year since its formation last summer, according to an announcement before the PAC filed its first campaign finance report.

Several states have passed or are considering their own AI laws, creating a patchwork of regulations that some in the AI industry warn will hinder progress in developing more advanced technologies.

“Leadership in AI innovation will define our economic growth, national security, and America’s role in the global economy, and lawmakers cannot afford to be distracted by demagogy that leaves us behind,” Zach Moffat and Josh Brust, two political strategists leading the PAC, said in a statement. “Candidates who understand the stakes can look to us to help elevate that message.”

The PAC’s full filing showing all its expenses and donors has not yet been released, but the PAC is already well into the midterm elections. The group is opposing Alex Boas, the Democratic candidate for Manhattan Congress, who has been leading the push for New York’s recently adopted AI law. The group also supports Texas Republican Congressional candidate Chris Gover.

The PAC has said it supports both Democratic and Republican candidates, but it also has ties to Build American AI, an advocacy group that has launched a $10 million campaign to push for a unified national AI agenda.

Contributors to Leading the Future include private equity firm Andreessen Horowitz, OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, SV Angel founder Ron Conway, and AI software company Perplexity.
