Apple is reportedly testing four designs for its next smart glasses

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Garman, Apple plans to sell its first smart glasses in 2027, possibly by the end of this year.

Garman, who has been steadily reporting on the evolution of the company’s smart glasses strategy, now has more details on what the glasses will look like — he said Apple is testing four designs and may eventually release some or all of them.

Those designs reportedly include large rectangular frames, slimmer rectangular frames (similar to the glasses worn by CEO Tim Cook), larger oval or circular frames, and smaller oval or circular frames. Apple is also considering a variety of colors, including black, ocean blue, and light brown.

In some ways, these glasses are a step back from the ambitious plans that once called for Apple to launch a range of mixed and augmented reality devices. That plan has already been stumbled by product delays and Vision Pro’s poor reputation.

On the other hand, these glasses sound more like Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses. It won’t have a display, but users will be able to take photos and videos (Apple is reportedly using an oval-shaped camera lens), answer calls, play music, and interact with the long-promised Siri upgrade.
