Adobe is updating its AI video generation app Firefly with a new video editor that supports precise prompt-based editing, as well as adding new third-party models for image and video generation, including Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 and Topaz Astra.

Previously, Firefly only supported prompt-based generation, so if you didn’t like part of your video, you had to recreate the entire clip. The new editor lets you edit video elements, colors, and camera angles using text prompts. We’ve also added a new timeline view that allows you to easily adjust frames, sounds, and other characteristics.

The company first announced the new video editor in private beta in October and is now rolling it out to all users.

According to the company, by using Runway’s Aleph model, users can give Firefly specific instructions such as “turning the sky cloudy to reduce contrast” or “zooming in a little on the main subject.”

Additionally, Adobe’s unique Firefly Video model allows users to upload a reference video of the starting frame and camera motion, and direct it to recreate camera angles for the video they are working on.

The company also said users can now upscale videos to 1080p or 4K using Topaz Labs’ Astra model. Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 image generation model is also coming to the app, along with collaborative board functionality.

The company says FLUX.2 will be available immediately on Firefly across all platforms, and Adobe Express users will be able to use FLUX.2 starting in January.

As competitors release new models for image and video generation, Adobe wants to get users more interested in its apps. In addition to the new updates to the Firefly app, the company said subscribers to Firefly Pro, Firefly Premium, 7,000 Credits, and 50,000 Credits plans can get unlimited generations from all image models and Adobe Firefly video models in the Firefly app until January 15th.

Adobe has made a number of changes to the Firefly model and app this year. In February, the company launched a subscription that gives users access to different levels of image and video generation. We then released a new Firefly web app along with our mobile app later this year, adding support for more third-party models within the Firefly app.
