Google on Wednesday launched its more affordable AI Plus plan in India, aiming to compete on price with other low-cost AI products such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go subscription.

For new users in India, Google is offering AI Plus for ₹199 ($2.21) per month for the first six months, after which you will have to pay ₹399 ($4.44) per month.

The AI Plus plan has higher limits for Gemini 3 Pro and the image editing model Nano Banana Pro. Access to video generation in Gemini and Flow apps. Expanded access to deep research in NotebookLM. 200 GB of storage across Photos, Drive, and Gmail. Subscribers can also grant access to family members.

Previously, the cheapest Google AI subscription available in the country was AI Pro, priced at ₹1,950 ($21.69) per month.

However, Google has been slow to customize the pricing for India as the AI Plus plan was first introduced in Indonesia in September and was also made available in other countries the same month. OpenAI debuted its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan in India in August and made it available in other countries in the following months. With this plan, users get 10 times more limits on messages, image generation, and file uploads than the free plan.

AI companies are busy offering freebies in a bid to tap into India’s huge population. First, Perplexity partnered with telco Airtel to offer a free year of Pro plans to all Airtel customers. OpenAI also offered ChatGPT Go free for one year to existing Go subscribers and new users.

Meanwhile, Google has partnered with telco Reliance Jio to offer its AI Pro plan for free for 18 months to users on certain telco plans.
