Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has a £65m release clause in his contract, which will come into effect in January, Sky Sports News understands.
Semenyo’s contract has a release clause of £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons, but it is only valid until a certain date in the January transfer window.
The price of the release clause will drop in the summer of 2026.
Bristol City, who sold Semenyo to Cherries for around £10m in January 2023, will pay 20 per cent of the profit they make on the 25-year-old.
Sky Sports News reported last week that Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham are looking to add Semenyo’s pace, power and goal-scoring ability to their squads over the winter.
Semenyo penned a new five-year deal in the summer after several teams made inquiries about his availability, but he would not have signed a new contract without a release clause.
Despite reports that Semenyo has requested a transfer, he has not done so. He has full respect for Bournemouth and knows his release clause will allow him to move if he continues to perform.
How well he performs between now and the new year will determine the level of club he can move to in January – whether anyone is willing to pay him a release fee.
Semenyo has enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League, scoring six goals, but only Man City’s Erling Haaland (14) and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (eight) have scored more goals this season.
This follows his return last season, when the Ghanaian international scored 11 goals and provided five assists in the league.
Semenyo returns injured from international duty
Semenyo made an early return from international duty due to injury, but Bournemouth are currently assessing his injury status.
The former Bristol City forward suffered a ligament sprain during Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Japan on Friday.
Semenyo left with an injury early in the second half of the Black Stars’ loss.
Andoni Iraola’s side will be working hard on their fitness ahead of Saturday’s game against West Ham as they look to overcome back-to-back Premier League defeats as the ninth-placed team.
Semenyo is happy to be moving to Bournemouth due to transfer.
Semenyo revealed in an interview with Sky Sports earlier this month that he is not concerned about speculation surrounding his future, but was glad he stayed at Bournemouth in the summer.
The winger spoke to Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp before Cherries’ defeat to Manchester City and was asked about his future.
“I don’t really think about it,” Semenyo said. “I try to stay present as much as possible. I always watch the news and I watch it as well. It’s not that I don’t care, but I try to stay focused.
“I’m enjoying my football here. If I’m not scoring goals, it all goes away. I’m staying where I am, doing my best for the team, scoring goals and trying to see what happens in the future.”
“When they (his former team-mates) all left (in the summer) there was a lot of interest and interaction at the club.
“But I knew in my head that the manager was trying to do something this year. The way the season ended last year was very good and I think we can continue, especially with the players we have brought in.”
“I wasn’t very confident at first, but it’s going like a house on fire. I’m glad I decided to stay here, because I’m enjoying every moment.”
