Manchester City have signed Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a £64m deal.
The forward joins Josep Guardiola’s side on a five-and-a-half-year deal, taking City’s transfer costs to 14 players to £425.9 million over the past 12 months. A formal announcement is expected on Friday.
City agreed a deal with Bournemouth for £62.5m, excluding Semenyo’s £65m release clause, plus a further £1.5m worth of performance bonuses and a 10% sell-on clause.
City beat out competition from rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham to sign the 26-year-old.
The guaranteed part of the contract was £60m, but Bournemouth will now receive slightly more at £62.5m, to be paid in 24-month installments.
The release clause meant Bournemouth would keep Semenyo for a further six months after his interest in the summer, and the sale price was higher than any offer they had received at the time.
Semenyo underwent a Manchester City medical on Thursday after scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner in Bournemouth’s final game on Wednesday, clinching a 3-2 win at home to Spurs.
Championship club Bristol City are set to pay 20% of the profit they earn from Semenyo, who moves to Bournemouth in January 2023 for around £10m.
Semenho’s departure means Dean Huyssen to Real Madrid (£50m), Milos Kerkes to Liverpool (£40m) and Ilia Zabarny to Paris Saint-Germain (£570m). This means Bournemouth have made £266.5m in player sales in the past six months, following the big move of Dhango Ouattara to Brentford (£0.0m) and Dhango Ouattara to Brentford (£42m).
