Authorities shot and killed an armed man as he tried to enter President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida on Sunday morning, the Secret Service said.

Trump was not at his Palm Beach club during the shooting incident. The president was in the White House.

The man who was shot was in possession of a weapon and a gas canister, according to a Secret Service press release. He had entered a secure perimeter around Mar-a-Lago.

Secret Service and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office officials said at a news conference Sunday morning that the man pointed a shotgun at officers before being shot. Police have not yet identified the man, but a press release announcing the shooting said he was in his early 20s.

“A deputy and two Secret Service agents responded to the scene to investigate. They confronted a white male who was in possession of a gas can and a shotgun,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said in a statement. “He was ordered to drop the two pieces of equipment he was carrying, at which time he put down the gas can and raised his shotgun to firing position. At that point, the deputy and two Secret Service agents fired their weapons, neutralizing the threat.”
