Aston Villa are exploring the possibility of signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.
Initial loans with purchase options accrue interest.
Sources have suggested Harvey Elliott’s future could impact Villa’s ability to sign Gallagher.
Villa have failed to fulfill their obligation to sign Elliott for £35m and are looking to find a solution for him to play elsewhere.
Although there is long-term interest in Gallagher, Atlético Madrid are reluctant to loan him unless there is a mandatory permanent element to the deal, and they want a fee close to what they paid for him.
He joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2024 for £38m and is only 25 years old. During his contract with the Blues, he had loan spells at Charlton, Swansea, West Brom and Crystal Palace.
The midfielder made 50 appearances for Atlético in his first season, scoring 4 goals. He has appeared in 27 games this season, starting in midweek’s Spanish Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.
Gallagher may also be considering a possible call-up to England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
