A powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck off Japan’s northeastern coast on Monday, prompting evacuation advisories and tsunami warnings for parts of the coastline. A tsunami has occurred in some areas of Japan, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported in an update early Tuesday morning local time. A 2.3-foot (0.7 meter) tsunami was observed at Kuji Port in Iwate Prefecture.
