New York City’s next mayor, Zoran Mamdani, is expected to win amid Islamophobic attacks and become the city’s first Muslim mayor. He vowed to serve all communities and challenge US President Trump’s policies. His victory has been compared to that of London’s Muslim mayor, Sadiq Khan, an opponent of then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Are mayors the new resistance to right-wing governments?
