Arsenal defender Gabriel limped off during Brazil’s 2-0 win over Senegal at the Emirates, raising injury concerns for the Gunners ahead of the north London derby.
Brazil announced that Gabriel was sent off in the 64th minute with a groin injury, as goals from Chelsea’s Estevao and Manchester United’s Casemiro clinched victory in London.
Arsenal fans will be anxious to hear the severity of the defender’s injury live on Sky Sports ahead of the North London derby against Tottenham on Sunday, November 23rd.
Gabriel is scheduled to undergo tests on Sunday, but it has not yet been decided whether he will fly with Brazil to France ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Tunisia.
There was also some bad news for Tottenham as Pape Matar Sarr was substituted early in the second half with a suspected injury.
Sarr was replaced by Nicholas Jackson just before half-time, but there is no word on whether he is at risk of missing next weekend’s north London derby against Arsenal, which will be broadcast live on Sky.
The five-time World Cup winners have already secured a trip to North America next summer, but suffered a shock defeat to Japan during the October international break.
But familiar faces stole the show and the Gunners were able to bounce back at home.
Estevao, 18, became one of Carlo Ancelotti’s brightest young stars and opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark.
The teenager grabbed a loose ball on the right side of the penalty area and fired a shot into the far corner, beating former Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy.
Just seven minutes later, Casemiro converted a free-kick before finishing, increasing the lead to two points.
Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, as well as Casemiro’s Man United teammate Matheus Cunha, were also among the names to start in north London.
Ancelotti will have another chance to assess his players when they travel to Lille to face Tunisia on Tuesday.
