“We are very pleased to nominate Secretary Raimondo to our Board of Directors,” Costco Chairman Tony James said in a statement.

“Her extensive experience at the highest levels of global business, politics and international security will add an important dimension to our current expertise,” said James. “We look forward to her contributions.”

Mr. Raimondo previously served as the state treasurer of Rhode Island. Prior to that, I worked in venture capital.

The Supreme Court last month heard the Trump administration’s bid to overturn a lower court’s ruling that the president’s sweeping tariffs imposed this year under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act were illegal.

Costco’s lawsuit asks the U.S. Court of International Trade to order it to immediately refund the money it has paid for these tariffs, without waiting for the Supreme Court to issue a final ruling on their legality.

The retailer said that without such an order, it risks not getting its money back even if the Supreme Court finds that President Trump did not have the authority to implement the tariffs without Congressional approval.

The International Trade Court on Wednesday granted a motion to consolidate Costco’s lawsuit with similar lawsuits filed in the same court by 19 other companies.
