Kensington Palace said Duchess Kate and her daughter Princess Charlotte performed a festive piano duet that aired on Wednesday as part of the annual Christmas service, which celebrates “love in all its forms.”

British TV viewers saw a “special musical moment” between Duchess Kate and Princess Charlotte on Christmas Eve, the palace said in a statement, adding that the piano recital was recorded at Windsor Castle last week.

The royal mother and daughter performed Scottish producer Erland Cooper’s “Holme Sound,” a song they “enjoy performing together at home,” the palace statement added. Cooper wrote the song for his mother to reflect values such as “nature, connection, and togetherness.”

The clip was the opening sequence for the Together at Christmas concert, hosted by the Princess of Wales at Westminster Abbey in London and broadcast every December 24 in the UK. In 2021, the Princess hosted the first service to honor those who have made a meaningful impact on their local communities during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s extravaganza was filmed at the Abbey on December 5 and spotlighted people from across the UK who have “given up and volunteered their time to sit with others, led efforts to bring people together in their communities and extended a helping hand to those around them”, the palace said in a statement.

That night, the stately candlelit monastery was filled with 1,600 people united in “love and compassion” that “knits us all together at Christmas and all year round”, the palace statement added.

English woodland trees overgrown with fruit and berries and a Christmas tree woven by gardener Jamie Butterworth line the base of the Abbey, creating a “magical wonderland for guests from the moment they arrive”.

As the service began, carols sung by the prestigious Westminster Abbey choir echoed through the halls of the Gothic church. Selected British artists including Hannah Waddingham, Griff and Katie Melure delivered musical performances, and speakers including the Prince of Wales, Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor delivered moving readings, all tied to the theme of ‘love, compassion and connection’.

The show, supported by The Prince and Princess’ Royal Foundation Charity, also featured special performances by young people from the British capital-based organization Platinum Performing Arts.

Organizers also ran 15 other ‘Together at Christmas’ community carol services across the UK, including in Manchester, the Isle of Wight and Dyfed in south-west Wales.

The princess has steadily returned to royal duties since being diagnosed with cancer last year. In September 2024, she announced that she had finished chemotherapy and was “doing everything I can to remain cancer-free.”
