Emma Raducanu overturned a five-game deficit in the first set to win in straight sets over Kaja Juban and advance to the Transylvania Open quarterfinals.

The British number one was playing his second game since parting ways with manager Francois Roig, making a remarkable comeback after dropping his opening five games against the Slovenian side.

From a 5-0 deficit, Radukanu suddenly awoke from his slumber and took control of the match, winning 11 games in a row, laying the foundation for an impressive 7-5 6-1 victory that at one point seemed unlikely.

Raducanu faces a quick turnaround in Cluj-Napoca, where she is scheduled to play Poland’s Maja Czwarinska in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Raducanu, who is of Romanian descent, told the crowd: “Thank you for the support. It really helped me get through some tricky moments in the first set.

“I have to say that Kaja played some great tennis and put me on the back foot right away. I thought I was going for the shot aggressively, but I whiffed and couldn’t execute.

“At least I can say I tried to play on my terms. That was the goal for me. I don’t think I’ve ever come back from a 5-0 deficit, so this is a new experience for me.”

“Thank you for staying and waiting for me for so long. I appreciate it. It means a lot. Now I have to try to recover quickly.

“I don’t have a lot of time, but I hope my schedule is kind to me and gives me energy. I also hope I can meet you all and give you energy.”

The British No. 4, who plummeted down the standings after disappointing results in 2025, defeated Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-2.

It was their best performance in a while, dominating their Swiss opponents from beginning to end. She will face local prospect Linda Hruvirtova in the final eight.

Sonai Kartal was lucky to reach the quarterfinals of the Abu Dhabi Open.

Kartal was scheduled to play top seed and world No. 9 Belinda Bencic in a tough second round draw.

However, the Swiss withdrew due to illness and Kartal had a much quieter time against the lucky loser Renata Zarazua, winning 6-0 6-3.
