Emma Laducanu has withdrawn from the Miami Open due to illness.
The 23-year-old British No. 1 enters the second round of the tournament, which begins on Tuesday, as a 24th seed with a bye.
However, Raducanu is still recovering from symptoms following a viral infection he contracted in the Middle East last month and made the decision on Monday to withdraw from the tournament.
The 2021 US Open champion competed in Indian Wells earlier this month, losing to Amanda Anisimova 6-1, 6-1 in the third round.
After losing in 52 minutes, Raducanu admitted he couldn’t muster enough strength to compete with the two-time Grand Slam finalist.
Raducanu parted ways with his latest coach, Francisco Roig, in January and is working with Mark Petchey on an interim basis to rediscover his best form.
She could also face compatriot Sonay Kartal, who will face American Peyton Stearns in Miami in the round of 64.

It is unclear where or when Raducanu will play next, with her recently opting to sit out the Billie Jean King Cup match between Great Britain and Australia in April.
Kartal will lead Britain in this tournament.

Raducanu recently joined Japanese manufacturer Uniqlo as a brand ambassador after severing her relationship with Nike, and wore her new sponsor’s outfit for the first time at Indian Wells.
“Emma champions Uniqlo’s LifeWear philosophy, which is committed to excellence, making meaningful contributions to society, and empowering the next generation,” Uniqlo said in an Instagram post.
“UNIQLO and I share many values and perspectives on life, culture and society,” said Raducanu.

In January, news broke that Raducanu was looking for his 10th coach in the past five years after parting ways with Francis Roig following his early withdrawal from the Australian Open.
Raducanu announced that he had ended his partnership with Roig, who helped Rafael Nadal win 16 of his 22 Grand Slam titles, after less than six months.
She has been supported by LTA coach Alexis Kanter since parting ways with Spaniard Roig, but was also reunited with Mark Petchey at Indian Wells.
Thirteen months is the longest period Raducanu has spent with the same coach since his breakthrough at Wimbledon in 2021 and spectacular victory at the US Open later that year.

Raducanu returned to competitive tennis at the United Cup in January, but suffered the first loss of her career to Maria Sakkari, and subsequently revealed that her ongoing injury kept her out of action for two and a half months.
Her preparations for the Australian Open suffered another blow after losing 6-2, 6-4 to Tayla Preston in the quarter-finals of the Hobart International, but she got off to a winning start a few days later at Melbourne Park.

Raducanu lost in the Transylvania Open final to local favorite Sorana Cirstea in straight sets, missing out on a chance to win her first title since winning the US Open in 2021.
Top-seeded Raducanu was feeling the effects of defeating Ukraine’s Oleksandra Olnikova in the marathon semi-final in Cluj, then losing 6-0, 6-2 to Cirstea in just over an hour.
She then played world No. 80 Camila Osorio in the first round of the Qatar Open and retired due to illness just two days after losing in the final of the Transylvania Open.
Raducanu had time to prepare for the tournament, but lost her last six matches to lucky loser Antonia Ruzic 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 in the opening round of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
At Indian Wells, she easily defeated Anastasia Zakharova in the second round, losing to two-time Grand Slam runner-up Anisimova in 52 minutes.

So far, winning the 2021 US Open is Raducanu’s only major success. She reached the fourth round at Wimbledon that year. This feat was achieved in 2024 and might have been better had he not been injured, but he has never advanced beyond the third round at the Australian Open or French Open.
