Freddie Freeman hit a game-ending home run in the 18th inning, Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Monday in Game 3 of the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series.

Teoscar Hernandez also hit a home run, Ohtani added two doubles and reached base with a postseason-record five walks (four given) as the Dodgers led 2-1 in the best-of-seven series after losing Game 1 to Toronto.

The 18-inning game, also played against the Boston Red Sox in Los Angeles in 2018, is the longest in World Series history. Monday’s game lasted 6 hours and 39 minutes, making it the second-longest World Series game in terms of time.

Game 4 will take place on Tuesday in Los Angeles, where Ohtani will face Toronto right-hander Shane Bieber.

Freeman’s lead-off homer in the 18th inning came against left-hander Brendon Little (0-2), while Los Angeles right-hander Will Klein pitched four scoreless innings with one hit and five strikeouts (1-0).

Ohtani hit home runs in the third and seventh innings and has hit five home runs in his last two home playoff games. Los Angeles used a World Series record 10 pitchers, including one out from left-hander Clayton Kershaw, to escape the bases loaded situation in the 12th inning, and Klein and right-hander Edgardo Henriques, who were rarely used, combined to pitch six scoreless innings.

Alejandro Kirk hit a home run for the Blue Jays, who scored 11 points in their Game 1 win at home and snapped a losing streak. Toronto used nine pitchers, with left-handed pitcher Eric Lauer pitching 4 2/3 innings without giving up a run.

The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Hernandez’s fifth home run of the postseason. Ohtani hit a home run down the right field line in the third inning, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Jays took the lead with four runs and four runs, including Kirk’s three-run home run and Andres Jimenez’s sacrifice fly, taking a 4-2 lead.

The Dodgers tied the score at 4-4 in the 5th inning with Otani’s one-out double and Freeman’s RBI single in front of first base with two outs.

After Toronto’s George Springer left Reid with an injury starting in the seventh inning, the Blue Jays took a 5-4 lead in the first inning when Guerrero hit a double off right-hander Blake Treinen and Bichette scored an RBI from first base.

Ohtani’s fifth home run in the final two playoff games in Los Angeles came off right-hander Seranthony Dominguez in the seventh inning, tying the score at 5-5. This was Ohtani’s eighth postseason game and third World Series.

Dodgers second baseman Tommy Edman struck out Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who was trying to advance to third base, in the ninth inning, then homered Davis Schneider on a relay from Hernandez in right field to end the top of the 10th inning.
