Ahead of the 2025 Grand Slam of Darts, we asked the experts at Sky Sports Darts who will be crowned champion and who will be the surprise package in Wolverhampton…
Wayne Mardle’s prophecy…
Winner: It has to be Luke Littler. The longer the format, the harder it will be to beat him. I think he will repeat last year’s feat and lift the title.
Surprise package: I choose Michael Smith.
People forgot very quickly how special this man was. I believe he will get back to winning ways.
He is an absolute world winner then. I hope to see him fly.
John Peart’s predictions…
Winner: I repeat with Littler. He has a mission to win these tournaments and the last few rounds of this format suit him. I hope he has a chance to repeat because I believe his group is manageable for him.
Surprise Package: If you’re going to pick the No. 8 seed as an outsider, I’m going to pick Chris Doby as an outsider.
I like his performance in the last few lead-up events. He is a good, stable and strong player and is in a group that he can manage. I think if he stays true to his game, he can make it to the finals.
Glen Durant’s prophecy…
Winner: Must beat Gerwyn Price to claim another Grand Slam title.
Surprise package: Danny Noppert is a worthy choice. He’s always been very consistent.
Rod Studd’s predictions…
Winner: Gerwyn Price. He has an impressive course and distance record with three wins, and there is no doubt that “Iceman” is showing signs of great form.
Surprise Package: Johnny Clayton. He has reached one final and three semi-finals so far in 2025, which to me looks like he has a good spot in the lottery.
Emma Peyton’s prophecy…
The winner is Luke Littler. Yes, I know this is boring, but it’s very hard to bet on Luke Littler – unless of course someone catches him early. But I don’t think that will happen and I think he will put on a show in the group stage. He is pursuing that world number one spot and pursuing more majors. So for me, the Nuclear Year continues at Slam Tournament!
Surprise package: Beau Greaves. Yes, she’s in the same group as Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Nico Springer, but she’s probably the form player. He’s been mixed with big dogs in his last two Grand Slam appearances, but this time he’s even better equipped to do some damage. The players will fear her more than Bo fears them, so I support Bo running away!
Stuart Pike’s prophecy…
Winner: It’s really hard to see past Luke Littler defending the title. He will be hurt after his failure at the European Championship.
And he’s chasing the world No. 1 spot, which gives him even more motivation.
But he could run into European champion Jan van Veen, who is looking to cement his place in the world’s top eight and a spot in the Premier League in 2026.
SURPRISE PACKAGE: It would be great to see Michael Smith back on Sky Sports, even though he missed the cut.
He has endured terrible times, but as we will see later, the tone is only temporary.
It would be great if Smith could run in the top half of the draw and show his world champion pedigree again.
Polly James’ prophecy…
Winner: Luke Littler – You can’t ignore him right now, especially on the big stage and at this time of year and the fact that he’s out to defend his Grand Slam title.
Surprise Package: Queen Borgreave! She’s absolutely capable, so I’m not sure it would be all that surprising if she were to break out of the group. But once she tastes victory and regains that confidence, she’ll be dangerous — no one will want to play against her.
