Hamas says it will delay hostage handover after Israeli prime minister orders “immediate and strong” military attack on Gaza

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday ordered Israeli forces to carry out an “immediate and forceful” offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“At the end of the security talks, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed military authorities to carry out an immediate and strong offensive in the Gaza Strip,” the prime minister’s office said in a brief statement.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced that Hamas was in “clear violation” of the Gaza ceasefire agreement after it returned to Israel the unclaimed remains of 13 missing hostages in the enclave.

Later, Hamas’s militant group al-Qassam Brigades announced it was postponing the handover of the bodies of hostages recovered in southern Gaza on Tuesday, citing Israeli “violations.”

Israeli military officials told CNN that Hamas attacked Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops in Israeli-controlled territory east of the Yellow Line, which marks the point where Israel would withdraw from the Gaza Strip under a US-brokered ceasefire agreement.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
