What’s it like to wake up in New York City’s most unique apartment? With a price tag of $19.25 million, you might just have a chance to find out.
The penthouse sits atop 108 Leonard Street, a Tribeca landmark condominium developed by Elad Group, marketed by Douglas Elliman Development Marketing, and redesigned by Jeffrey Beers International.
This triplex apartment has 8,770 square feet of indoor space, 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and 2 powder rooms. It also boasts a 3,082-square-foot outdoor terrace, including a wraparound deck at the base of the clock.
There is also a private internal elevator and circular staircase serving both the duplex floors and the base of the clock tower.
Tim Rooney, a partner at Jeffrey Beers International, told CNBC Make It, “It’s like a new experience opens up as you move up the level.” “We took a lot of inspiration from that clock tower penthouse throughout the building.”
One of the key design features is the staircase that leads to the base of the clock tower.

The watch will remain fully functional even after it goes electric in 2023.
This penthouse was originally the headquarters of New York Life Insurance. It had never been publicly traded until it was put on the market in April for $19.25 million. Although the deal was recently closed, a representative for Elad Group told CNBC Make It in an email that they would not comment on the identity of the buyer or the final sale price.
The Clock Tower Penthouse was first designed by McKim, Mead & White in the late 1800s. It is part of New York City’s iconic Gilded Age architecture and was designated a landmark in 1987.
The top terrace features hand-carved eagles and gargoyles and offers panoramic views from the Empire State Building to the East River.
“We came up with the concept of incorporating modern elements within a classic shell. We wanted to preserve some of the details, such as the ceiling height and things that are not available in new construction today,” Rooney says. “We wanted it to have a little bit more of a modern feel in a way, so it felt a little updated but still embraced the classic language.”
The penthouse has an indoor area of 8,770 square feet and a terrace of 3,082 square feet.

108 Leonard Street features a variety of amenities including a drive-in motorized reception with private valet parking, multiple lobbies, a fitness center, a 75-foot lap pool, and a children’s playroom.
The sale of the Clock Tower Penthouse comes 12 years after developers Elad Group and Pebbles Corporation purchased the building from Mayor Bloomberg’s administration for $160 million in 2013. They converted a 19th century palace into 152 condominiums.
The clock tower was designated a landmark in 1987.

Rooney said he was still surprised when he first saw the completed Clock Tower penthouse, even after creating renderings and imagining what the space would be like.
“I was really surprised by the size of the clock tower, the soaring height of the ceilings, and the stairs leading up to the upper floors,” he says.
“Even as we rendered and designed it, the amount of light that came into the space with the huge windows was really impressive. You could really feel the scale and it was very special.”
