President Donald Trump has warned that the war with Iran is “not over” and that the United States still has thousands of targets left to attack. At least 10 U.S. military personnel have been injured in an Iranian attack on Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base.
Israel says it has targeted two Iranian nuclear facilities, and at least 20 people have been killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli attack in western Iran. At least one person was killed and four others were slightly injured in a cluster munitions attack in Israel.
Here’s what you need to know on day 29 of the conflict.
What are the main headings?
The war is ‘not over yet’: President Trump said in remarks at the FII Summit in Miami on Friday that the war with Iran is ‘not over yet.’ President Trump said the United States still has “3,554 more targets” in Iran. “It will be over soon,” he said. Trump has repeatedly claimed victory over Iran.
SAUDI ARABIA ATTACK: At least 10 U.S. military personnel were injured in an Iranian attack on Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base, a U.S. official told CNN. There were no military casualties. A tanker aircraft refueling was also damaged.
No ground forces: Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that the United States can achieve its objectives with “no ground forces” as more than 1,000 additional military personnel have been ordered to the region. As for why more military personnel are being sent to the Middle East, Rubio said President Trump “needs to prepare for multiple contingencies.”
New deployment: Sources say the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush will be deployed to areas near the conflict. It is unclear whether it will join one of the two US aircraft carriers already stationed in the region or replace it.
Iranian nuclear facilities targeted: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that it had targeted two nuclear facilities in Iran: the Yazd uranium factory and the shut down Arak nuclear reactor.
Deadly airstrike in Iran: At least 20 people were killed and dozens injured in a US and Israeli airstrike in western Iran on Friday, according to state security officials cited by state media. State media Tasnim said the airstrikes “targeted residential areas” in three locations and that the dead included children and women, one of whom was pregnant.
Munitions attack in Israel: At least one person was killed and four others were slightly injured after a cluster munitions attack in Israel, according to the National Emergency Service Magen David Adom.
