The match between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis has been called off after a civil lawsuit was filed against the lightweight boxing champion.
“Tank” Davis was scheduled to fight the YouTuber in Miami on November 14th, but Paul’s Most Valuable Promotion Company announced on X that the fight was canceled due to domestic violence allegations.
Paul’s promoters have reaffirmed their determination to secure a fight with another opponent by the end of 2025.
“While we do not intend to move forward with this event, our plans remain for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025,” MVP’s statement reads.
“Details regarding the new date, location, Jake’s opponent and additional matches will be shared as they are determined.”
The bout was originally scheduled to take place in Atlanta, but was moved to Florida and sanctioned, despite Paul having a significant weight advantage.
Paul usually fights at cruiserweight, about 50 pounds above the 135-pound limit where Davis holds the belt.
Paul is trying to ‘make Joshua’s fight happen’
Paul revealed to Sky Sports this week that talks are ongoing for a fight with Anthony Joshua next year.
“It’s 100 per cent possible,” Paul told Sky Sports. “Our teams are already in discussions and working to make this a reality for next year.”
That’s his next fight. “After this fight (against Gervonta Davis on Nov. 14), it would be fun to fight Anthony Joshua,” he said.
“Taking big risks and big challenges and going into fights that no one thinks I have even the slightest chance of winning, that excites me.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn also hasn’t ruled out a fight with Paul, initially telling Sky Sports:
“If you get dicked by Gervonta Davis, don’t think you’re fighting Anthony Joshua. That’s ridiculous. If I’m going to get a fight (with AJ), I don’t want them to take that fight.”
But with Davis’ fight now on the schedule, the door may have just opened for an unlikely matchup with social media star and two-time heavyweight champion Joshua.
