jet blue airlines will launch daily seasonal flights from Boston to Milan, Italy, and Barcelona, ​​Spain next year, pushing its single-aisle fleet deeper into Europe, its latest effort to capture big-spending travelers.

Daily flights from Boston to Barcelona will begin on April 16, and daily flights from Boston to Milan will begin on May 11, the airline announced Wednesday.

U.S. airlines — with JetBlue’s new mileage earning partner united airlines to small carriers such as alaska airlines — Adding international destinations with higher fares and more premium seats on board than short-haul domestic flights to drive profits.

To stem more than five years of losses, JetBlue is restructuring its network to cut unprofitable routes and add new destinations served by its particularly profitable Mint business-class aircraft. In recent years, airline demand for more spacious premium seats has been extremely high, creating a bottleneck for new aircraft deliveries.

The New York-based airline announced last month that its first lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport, scheduled to open this year, will be available to Transatlantic Mint customers among its travelers.

JetBlue’s first transatlantic service debuted in 2021 with a nonstop flight to London, and the airline has since added service to Paris from both New York and Boston. Amsterdam; Edinburgh, Scotland. And Dublin.

New tickets will go on sale Thursday.

JetBlue’s addition shows how far the airline is flying Airbus’ new narrowbody jets.

The A321LR (long-haul Airbus aircraft) will be used for the Barcelona and Milan flights. The Milan flight will be the longest in JetBlue’s network, taking about 9 hours westbound and 7 hours 45 hours eastbound, a spokesperson said, but flight times can vary depending on weather conditions and other factors.

Those planes carry fewer passengers than larger twin-aisle jets. boeing The 777 is cheaper to operate, especially since it requires less fuel. american airlines The airline plans to debut the Airbus A321XLR, an ultra-long-range version of its popular 321, in December, with plans to eventually fly to Edinburgh from both its New York and Philadelphia hubs next March.
