Kim Kardashian says ChatGPT is her ‘frenemy’

Celebrities: Are they just like us? Kim Kardashian, who is studying to become a lawyer, opened up about her “toxic” friendship with ChatGPT in an interview with Vanity Fair, admitting that ChatGPT gave her false information and caused her to fail her law exam.

“I use (ChatGPT) for legal advice, so when I want to know the answer to a question, I take a picture and paste it there,” she said. “They’re always wrong. That’s why I failed the test…and I’d get mad and yell and say, ‘You made me fail!'”

Because ChatGPT is prone to hallucinations, LLMs will not admit that they cannot confidently respond to prompts and will sometimes create fake responses. This technology is not necessarily programmed to know which information is “correct” or not. Rather, it is trained on immeasurably large amounts of data and encouraged to predict the most likely response to inputs that may not be factually accurate. Some lawyers have been sanctioned for using ChatGPT when drafting legal briefs, which is obvious to anyone reviewing the brief because they cite cases that don’t exist.

Kardashian said she was trying to tap into her emotions after being let down by ChatGPT. But this is a futile plan, since ChatGPT has no emotions.

“I’ll talk to it and say, ‘Hey, you’re going to fail me, but why do you feel like you really need to know these answers?'” she said. “And I’ll say back, ‘This is just teaching me to trust my instincts.'”

But while ChatGPT may be emotionless, that doesn’t mean we humans aren’t.

“I always take screenshots and send them to the group chat. I’m like, ‘Can you believe this person is talking to me like this?'”
